The Internet of Things looks different from the viewpoint of a semiconductor manufacturer.  While users and the cloud seem far away, the demand for data from things at the edge continues to grow which in turn drives the demand for semiconductors.  But Moore’s Law no longer dictates the path of technology roadmaps for the IoT and a new perspective working directly with application developers is needed.  Similarly, IoT application developers should look beyond the presumption that hardware is a commodity to the possibility that even chip-level design is within reach and can be a strategic advantage.
